Construction firms continue to face skilled-labor shortages, but adding workers is not the only way to protect a project schedule. In steel deck construction, delays may also come from an attachment method that requires specialized labor, extensive coordination, or repeated corrective work.

1. Your Critical Path Keeps Bending Around Welder Availability
Welding-dependent schedules require qualified welders to be available when deck attachment begins. When those workers are assigned elsewhere, delayed, or unavailable, other crews may be unable to proceed.
An approved mechanical fastening system can give properly trained crews another way to complete specified attachments. This can reduce reliance on welder availability and provide greater flexibility when coordinating steel deck crews.

Pneumatic fastening does not remove general safety obligations. It may, however, reduce the need for controls directly associated with welding and help limit hot-work permitting delays for approved connections.
5. Rework Requests Are Eating Into Margin
Rework consumes more than materials. It also requires supervision, labor reassignment, equipment access, documentation, and another inspection cycle. When the same attachment problems recur across projects, the fastening process deserves closer review.
